Fines and Overdues

The computer system at the library will record all overdue fines for overdue materials on library cards AFTER materials are returned. Overdue charges vary, depending on the type of material that is borrowed. Cards that reach overdue fines of $25.00 or more are unable to be used until all or a portion of the fine is paid. Overdue fines on cards do not accumulate interest and remain on the card until the customer pays the fee. Cards are also unable to be used if the patron has ten or more overdue items on the card that have not yet been returned. Overdue fines for these items will record when the materials are brought back to the library.

Once an item is 14 days late, the library will send an overdue notice to remind the customer about the late item(s). Once an item is 28 days late, the computer system at the library assumes an item lost. Sometime during that week, the library sends out a bill stating the cost of the item(s). If the book is returned, the customer owes only the overdue charges. If it is lost or not returned, the customer owes the cost of the item(s). Customers never have to pay both overdue fines and costs of materials.
