EFFECTIVE APRIL 1, 2015: Each individual may only recieve 2 coaching sessions per calendar month.
What is Computer Coach?
A one-on-one (or two) training session that covers a specific technology topic of interest (such as setting up an email account). This service is intended for all levels of users who need to get more comfortable with specific computer topics (e.g. creating a Facebook account).
Does it cost anything?
Computer Coaching is a free service.
How long are Computer Coach Sessions?
30 minutes to an hour.
What times do you usually have coaching sessions?
Monday-Friday at various times. Coaching Sessions are limited and scheduled in advance. Please call 330-425-4268 ext. 4 to schedule a session.
Walk-In sessions for Fridays
We offer Walk-in Sessions every Friday from 3:00- 5:00pm (unless noted otherwise).
Walk in coaching sessions are first come, first serve. You may not arrive more than 10 minutes before the walk-in time blocks for a coach.
All coaching ends at 5:00pm, which means if your coaching session starts at 4:45pm, you will only have until 5:00pm.
Who are the Computer Coaches?
Library staff and volunteers with the knowledge or experience on a particular topic.
Do I need a library card to sign up for a session?
What if I need to cancel?
Please call and cancel at least 24 hours in advance. If you do not call and cancel, your session will be labeled as a “No Show.”
2 “No Show” sessions will result in a suspension of Computer Coaching privileges for 6 months.
Am I limited with how many coaches I can have?
Effective April 1, 2015: Due to the popularity of the coaching program, each individual may have 2 coaching sessions per calender month. A session is 30 minutes to an hour.
Sample Topics we will coach:
- Microsoft Office 2010: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Internet skills
- Library databases; finding articles
- Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Google+
- Downloading eBooks or Audiobooks
- How to use tablets and smartphones: Nook, Kindle, iPad, and Android-based devices
- Windows 8
- Mac basics and Apple products
If there is a topic you would like to learn that is not listed, please see the Computer Lab attendant or call us at 330-425-4268 ext. 4.
Topics we will NOT coach:
- Crystal Reports
- Adobe Photoshop
- Specialized, job-related software
- Any request that violates State and Federal law
- Windows OS Errors
- Software updates
- Downloading illegal software
- Downloading any item that violates copyright law
Special Note: We do not remove viruses or repair computers. This is strictly for educational purposes only. If we determine the coach is no longer fullfilling its purpose as an educational exercise, we will end the session.
The Library offers a limited list of coaching topics. Topics are limited by software the Library has access to and staff knowledge. We reserve the right to deny a coach request based on these and other criteria.
