| Course Description: | Have you ever wondered how the Pulitzer Prize for fiction is determined? Here are a few myths that need to be dispelled: #1. Weighing all the books and selecting the heaviest – WRONG! #2 Reading all the books in a given year and picking the one that is the most Pointless, or Boring – WRONG! #3 Selecting a book that no one has ever heard of by an author whose name is unpronounceable – WRONG (well actually that has happened). The truth is that over 400 books are nominated to that most exalted of literary prizes. They are whittled down to three by a secret group of jurors (the names will be revealed on the day of announcement). Finally, the Pulitzer Board reviews the recommendations and selects the one and only one winner. Of course, last year this process did not lead to a winning selection.
